Understanding Time Zones within the Cut-off Window
What timezone does my store run on?
For a variety of reasons (engineering, time zones, international orders, etc.) Cratejoy runs on UTC Time (Coordinated Universal Time). UTC is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time.
For merchants located in the United States, here are some quick comparisons:
- 12 AM UTC (Friday) -> 8 PM EST (Thursday)
- 12 AM UTC (Friday) -> 7 PM CST (Thursday)
- 12 AM UTC (Friday) -> 5 PM PST (Thursday)
Not in the United States? You can use a UTC Timezone Converter, like this one to compare your timezone to UTC.

How does this effect my cut-off window?
Your subscribers must sign-up before your cut-off window begins. Which is 12:00 AM UTC on the first-day of your cut-off window.
All subscribers who sign-up for your box before 12:00 AM UTC will be included in the previous month's box.
All subscribers who sign-up for your box after 12:00 AM UTC will be automatically added to next month's box.
Melty Ice Cream Box is a subscription box that delivers Fresh Ice Cream to their subscribers, only....melted. They are running a Facebook campaign and want to sign-up 25 new subscribers before their cutoff window ends on Monday, July 4th. They are based in New Jersey, in the United States.
- Since they are located on the East Coast (EST), they need to make sure that their Facebook posts inform potential subscribers that they need to place their order by July 3rd at 8 PM EST (Eastern Standard Time)
Shiny Suits Box is a subscription box that sends designer suits to their subscribers on a monthly basis. A California-based business, they have recently partnered with a national television news channel who is featuring their subscription box in their "Monthly Finds" segment of their show. This new segment will be shown throughout the entirety of the United States. Shiny Suits is concerned that their new subscribers will miss their cut-off date, so they want to be sure that they give the new channel the right information. Their cut-off window is Thursday, February 4th, and their news segment is airing on February 3rd.
- Since they are based on the West Coast (PST), they need to make sure that the news anchors mention that orders for next month's subscription need to be placed by 5 PM PST (Pacific Time), 8 PM EST, and 7 PM CST on Wednesday, February 3rd.
What if someone misses signing up for a given month's subscription
Now, say a customer heard about the Shiny Suit promotion, but lost track of time, and ended up placing their order at 12:45 AM UTC (5:45 PM PST).
If you do not want that subscriber to have to wait an entire month before receiving their next box, you can use the "Change Renewal Date" tool to adjust the subscription in question's renewal date by pulling it back to the next immediate renewal. Then when the option is made to move the shipments too, you'd select the option to move them.
